Beyond the Usual Acoustic Guitar

I want to hear a sumptuous acoustic guitar tone, one that floods the senses, inspires new music and makes the instrument difficult to put down.

I want to hold an amazingly comfortable guitar that responds to my every touch and supplies anything that is requested of it.

I want a guitar that is as beautiful and interesting to look upon as it is wonderful to play; something beyond the usual.

That is the kind of instrument I build.

Cozad Guitars Body Shells

ARTICLE: Body Flexion - Neck Block Shift and Soundboard Shear

ri•gid•i•fi•ca•tion

The reinforcement of the body shell or frame of the acoustic guitar to eliminate flexion, achieved by unifying the neck and tail blocks. Guitars featuring center soundholes require tying the blocks to the waist, whereas offset soundholes permit a direct coupling of the blocks, neck to tail. Why go to the trouble?

D-Tube by DragonPlate

ARTICLE: D-Tube by Dragonplate - Truss Rod Alternative

sta•bil•i•za•tion

The process of making the guitar neck more stable, significantly increasing its bending and torsional stiffness, achieved by replacing a metal truss rod with the carbon fiber D-Tube neck beam by DragonPlate. The result is a neck that doesn't move with the seasons. Why can't I just be like everybody else and use a truss rod?

TurboTail by TurboGuitars

ARTICLE: The TurboTail

lib•er•a•tion

The act of freeing the soundboard from its traditional role as primary mitigator of collapse. Instead of relying on heavy bracing to prevent forward bridge rotation, the TurboTail from TurboGuitar counters such rotation by securing the bridge to the tail block. As a result, the builder is able to focus on the sound-generating potential of the guitar. Gimmick or Revolution?

The TurboTail

A cost-effective fixture designed to counter the rotational effect on the bridge due to the pull of the strings. As an educational tool, the TurboTail offers insight into long-held beliefs regarding the soundboard's role in resisting string tension.

Swayback Horse
The Fretboard Hump

Is there really a raised hump in my fretboard directly above the point where the neck joins the body, or is it just an optical illusion?

And what does a fretboard hump have do with a swayback horse?

Neck Block Shift
Neck Block Shift

Permitting the body to flex subjects the soundboard to unwarranted stress. Neck blocks rotate, shifting out of position. Soundboards split and can shear off into the soundhole. I believe this occurs as a result of an intrinsic design flaw.

ques•tions

Building exact replicas of guitars, even of my own designs, has never appealed to me. From the beginning, I determined to pour myself into the guitar currently on my bench; not a guitar from long ago, not the previous guitar, and definitely not the next guitar in the queue. I build the guitar that is in front of me with all my heart. It is intentionally one-of-a-kind, meticulously hand-crafted with love, inspiration and the utmost care, using the finest materials and techniques. You will never find another quite like it.

A Cozad guitar is not just another stringed instrument; it is a work of performance art that is capable of interpreting your own musical story. As a result, it takes as long as it takes.

Prices vary based on materials and complexity, and are discussed up front on an individual basis. Each guitar is worthy of the investment for its craftsmanship, sound quality and individuality.
